Howdy! I finally got some legit pics of myself, thanks to the super awesome @chrisrylee ! So I thought I’d come say hi and intro myself: something I’ve never really done on here! 🤪 Name’s Alexis and I do art and design. A lot. Here’s a few tidbits: ✨ I’ve been doing art and design for as long as I can remember; it’s sort of the one thing I’ve continued to do throughout my life. ✨ I love to draw. I can probably draw you almost anything. 😁 ✨ …and I love to incorporate that into any design work, big or small. Everything I do is drawn from scratch. ✨ Lately I’ve been fascinated by colour and how colour can be used to identify things and people. Happy Independence Day, Americans! Although the name of this day reminds me of a movie about aliens from the ‘90s, I’m super grateful for everything the US has given me and my family. Although our immigration status is forever pending (man, these things take ages!), this country has given us so much: (re)united me with family, huge advances in my husband’s career that he could not have achieved in Australia, friends who have become like family and opportunity for me and my career. Along with a sense of belonging I never had in Australia. Despite not actually being from Australia, I never felt like I fit in there. But things feel better here, for all 3 of us. This quick sketch was done on my son’s iPad in a random drawing/painting app. 🤪 Hats off to those who make amazing art on iPads! I’m super spoilt with my Cintiq, and the iPad made me miss it so much! 🤣🤣🤣 I struggled. 🤣🤣🤣 Anywho, what’s everyone doing?! It’s 11am and we still haven’t really done… anything. For @sessions_college this week: “design a Lego box. Take pics of some blocks if you have access to LEGO”. 🤣🤣🤣 I live in a Lego house; access to LEGO wasn’t hard. 🤣🤣🤣 This was fun. I’m not overly happy with my overall design, mainly because I ran out of time. 😑 If I’d had the time, I would have illustrated this myself. My little fam and I go away tomorrow until next week, so I might not be around as much. But I hope everyone in the US has a lovely July 4! My head has been in #ballet world the past few days. 🥴 For those who don’t know, ballet is my “other” love, aside from visual arts. I’ve been dancing on and off as an adult, and the other night I took a big plunge and signed up to @mannakindance ‘s adult workshop and PERFORMANCE. 😱 I’m nervous as hell. 😅 But it’s definitely one of those things that I know I’d regret if I didn’t do. I did ballet all throughout my childhood, and was just another little girl who wanted to be a ballerina when she grew up. But due to terrible anxiety and a huge fear of performing, my dream was just never going to happen, so I quit. But moving to the US gave me the opportunity to do it again as an adult, something I didn’t think would happen, let alone PERFORM! 🤪 ANYWAY, I had big plans for this logo, and it actually started out as something COMPLETELY different before taking on a life of its own and becoming this. If it were to actually be used, it would be changed up even more to accommodate text. These days, with things like Canva (🤮 don’t get me started on Canva!), people think logo design is easy. It’s not. And for me, I literally draw every single one. I worked on this all afternoon. Art and design take a long time and I appreciate anyone who appreciates that. Sad day for America today; feels like it’s been put back 50 years. 😪 I’m disappointed. I’m not a US citizen, but have been living here for the past 6.5 years. It’s been a wonderful 6.5 years for me and my little family; this country has provided us all with so much opportunity and I’m so thankful. But come on… today’s events aren’t a move forward.
